Views and Positions

The positions presented on this site follow from the viewpoints and positions below. These are positions that are based on the pro-Europe and pro-European integration view (Europeanist) and do not form any left or right ideological position.

The European Union -The European Union is the greatest experiment of mankind to bring about regional cooperation that leads to mutual trust and lasting peace. Although it came out of economic cooperation of the ECSC, the EU is built on a shared heritage and common vales: peaceful relations, cooperation, human rights, respect for international law and the United Nations system. The EU should get more credit than it currently does in putting an end to wars and balance-of-power games, including human rights atrocities of the past.* The EU is about more than a common market, institutions, and the Treaties.* The EU is regarded as a model for other regional organizations, like the African Union.* The EU is regarded by most international actors as a legitimate international actor along side states. This recognition of actorhood also comes from the United Nations.* The EU simply does not do enough, though its institutions (and other means), to enforce, protect and defend European values, the terms of the Treaties, in relation to its Member States.

  • It appears that once a candidate nation becomes a Member State, the same requirements of the acquis communautaire, become mute. EU Member States must always be held to regime in the acquis, especially in the area of human rights.
  • Enforcement of the “terms of the agreements” must occur and REAL penalties, including expulsion from the Union, should occur against Member States that engage in especially gross violations of human rights.
  • The EU should help its Member States in times of trouble. This includes helping a Member State back into the fold in the event of punitive and disciplinary actions.

* The EU must realize that not all persons and organizations, and not just euroskeptics, both inside and outside the EU, are working toward its destruction. The EU needs protection and advocacy from those that actively seek to undermine and put it down. The EU is very poor (or naïve) at identifying those forces that intend it harm.* The EU should work to champion its values on the international stage and arena. The enforcement of these values begins “at home,” but should be projected in EU foreign policy. The EU generally does a good job, but the EU needs to learn to play of offense.—

The “transatlantic relationship” and ending EU servitude to the US* There is simply no need for the same American-dominated “transatlantic relationship” as in the Cold War. A “Euro-Atlantic Community” is a relic of the past.* Americans and Europeans do not share the same values and outlook of the international system. There are major differences in how American foreign and security policy is crafted and how European-level foreign and security policy are crafted.* American hegemony in Europe, over European nations, institutions, leaders, policy decisions, including at the EU level – should be immediately ended and made independent from all American demands, threats and subversion.* There should be NO attempts to “make” the Europeans think the same as Americans.* The EU’s relationship with America should be like those it has with Russia, China and not viewed as “special.”* The EU should (actively) work to bring America, American society, foreign policy, security policy, social -economic system, and criminal justice system- up to international human rights standards. American governance needs to be brought up to international standards for good governance.*Advocacy and working toward a totally independent European Union which makes decisions from its own values and for its own interests – not as an appendage to the United States – and to speak out against policies taken in the so-called EU-US partnership” which seek to undermine freedom, liberty and human rights of Americans, Europeans and others as measured by European and international human rights standards!* Eventually – this author would like to see a similar partnership and association agreement – that is EU-led – with America like the 1997 PCA that the EU has (had) with Russia.

The European Union must be totally independent from other international actors. The EU must make decisions itself, through its own institutions, and not place the interests of third nations and actors before its own. The EU’s interests must also place European values before the interests of a certain third nation and its interests, which often fall short of European values and interests.

NATO-* NATO was, without a doubt, the greatest military alliance in history. The alliance was created at a time when Americans and Europeans shared the same values and threats from the Soviet Union and the prospect of communist activities in various parts of the globe.o NATO’s only post Cold War purpose is to keep America engaged in Europe.o NATO is provocative, especially its expansion, and often gets in the way of useful and much needed relationship with Russia.o America needs to stop forcing ESDP to be under NATO and forcing Europeans to acknowledge “NATO as the premier European security organization.” The true purpose of this American policy is to keep America dominate in European security and keep independent European security system under the American thumb.

NATO’s new mission: “To keep the Russians out, the Americans in – and the Europeans down.”

European Identity* The EU, “Europe” does have a separate identity that is collective and based on the shared history of the creation and purposes of the Community/Union.* When a candidate nation is in the process of adapting the acquis communautaire, the nation acquires parts of European Identity.* European Identity, although based on basic Christian values -these values  ARE NOT exclusive!* For example above, reconciliation is a European value – and basic Christian teaching, but non-Christians can also believe in reconciliation.

European Defense and Security Policy (EDSP)* The EU should have its own defense and military security system that is totally separate and independent from NATO.* EDSP should continue to conform to international laws and rules of the UN system with regard to the use of force.—
